BRICK LOS ANGELES: Best Boutique Gym in West Hollywood!
The search for your perfect gym can be exhausting…There is certainly no shortage of gyms (or new fitness trends) in Los Angeles. The shiny new fitness concept opens and closes weekly in LA. The widgets and cute marketing angles aren’t sustainable and don’t ultimately provide the results you work and pay for. Nor the ones they promised.
Should you join Soul Cycle or get ClassPass? Get a YogaWorks membership or hike Runyon daily? What makes the “right gym for you?”. When you start your gym search, there are 3 key factors for determining what is best for you:
Will the workouts, fitness concepts and staff help you achieve your fitness goals?
Are you looking to increase your overall strength, energy, flexibility? Want to tone up, lean out? Just interested in overall and general fitness? The gym you choose should have all the tools necessary to help you reach your health and wellness goals.
Will the workouts, atmosphere, gym culture make you want to come back? Is the staff professional, friendly and driven by customer excellence? The truth is, getting a good workout is not enough – you need to enjoy your time at the gym regardless of how much or how little you like exercising. The staff needs to care about your success and understand what it is you are looking to take away from your time there. Everyone’s needs, wants, hopes are different. The best gyms are definitely more about personal preferences and enjoying your experience than perfecting your workout routine in week one. Why? Because repetition is the mother of all skills and with consistent attendance everything else will organically fall in place.
Is the gym geographically convenient? This is L.A. after all. Sure, Downtown to Culver City is only 10 miles, but that’s at least 40 minutes in traffic. Yes, parking is more valuable than gold and as difficult to find as Waldo. You need a gym that you can consistently get to and make a part of your weekly routine without the added stresses of drive time and circling around looking for parking.

1. Do I need to be in shape before I start working out at BRICK?
No! People are sometimes intimidated when they see fit people at a gym. There is no better time to start than RIGHT NOW. All workouts at BRICK are scalable: that means that they can be scaled up or scaled down depending on your current fitness level and mood. Sure there are some insanely fit people at BRICK, but most did not start out that way and everyone is interested in encouraging one another. It’s all relative and we are here to work with you to integrate you into the classes and enjoy the workouts for what they personally provide.
2. Can I try classes before signing up for a monthly membership?
Yes! In fact, we have a special BOGO (Buy One Get One) class offer right now.
3. I’ve never done CrossFit before. Can I try a CrossFit class?
If you do not have 3 months of prior CrossFit experience, we have you start by taking BRICK academy classes where a coach will train you on CrossFit movements in a small group setting. Good form is vital for safety, so we want to make sure you are well versed before you jump into a more technical workout.
4. Are my muscles going to get way too big? Especially if I lift heavy weight.
It takes a ton of hard work and dedication to build muscle. Muscle also comes in different shapes and sizes. Big muscles don’t always translate to “strong”. Diet and genetics are vital in determining how your body will respond to different types of physical activity. Fortunately with our highly trained staff we can coach you through these details to get to your end game. The most important part is increasing your heart rate, moving your body, working on flexibility and challenging yourself daily. Doing this while having fun and being safe will insure the results!
5. Do I need any special equipment or gear to participate in the classes at BRICK? From endurance, to CrossFit, to bootcamp to Kickboxing/Boxing?
In general for our fitness classes we recommend flat shoes for workouts. Nike and Reebok both make great shoes specifically designed for CrossFit, but Chuck’s are also fine to wear! For boxing, we have extra gloves and wraps, but if you become a regular, you will likely want to buy your own. Nobody wants to wear someone’s sweaty socks?! Think of it that way. 🙂 If you are participating in our Endurance classes, we recommend a standard running show…If you have special footwear needs those too will work just fine. Being comfortable, mobile and not wearing anything loose or dangly from torn clothing to jewelry is recommended. Leave it at home where it’s safe.
